Management Team

Sylvester Akpah has over six (6) years’ experience in NGO management. Presently, as the Chief Executive Officer of Firm Health Ghana Foundation, Sylvester leads a team of 15 medical and administrative staff to advocate for the risk factors of kidney health. At the moment, the foundation has implemented four (4) major interventions in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality, namely: a weekly public health education program on Dynamite FM (88.9), quarterly free kidney screening, monthly 5K health walks with aerobics sessions, and a diabetes and hypertension clinic.
Sylvester is a Lecturer in the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), specializing in network infrastructure deployment, wireless security, software engineering, and web technologies. He holds an MSc and BSc in Information Technology from the Ghana Technology University College (Ghana) and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), respectively. Sylvester also volunteers as the Western Regional Coordinator for Operation Smile Ghana, an NGO that provides free medical surgeries to persons with facial deformities, specifically cleft lip/palate. He is a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow of Drexel University (Philadelphia). Sylvester enjoys watching football and exercising.

Dr. Joseph Darko is a dedicated medical professional who wears two hats: Director of Medical Services for the Firm Health Ghana Foundation and Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital in Bogoso. Dr. Darko’s passion lies in ensuring everyone has access to quality healthcare. He leads the Firm Health Ghana Foundation in organizing medical outreaches to deprived communities, bringing much-needed medical care directly to those who would otherwise struggle to receive it. Dr. Darko obtained his MBChB from the University of Ghana Medical School and went on to earn an MPH (Management of Health Systems) from the University of Liverpool. This expertise in managing scarce resources is invaluable in both his roles. His leadership extends beyond the Foundation. Dr. Darko also serves as the Medical Superintendent of Government Hospital in Bogoso. Here, he leverages his experience to maximize results and ensure optimal patient care by ensuring that all departments function cohesively and efficiently. Dr. Darko’s courage and exceptional leadership were recently recognized by the State of Ghana. He was awarded the Grand Medal for his outstanding performance as the Head of the Emergency Response and Training teams in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, when information on the disease was limited, Dr. Darko led his team in conducting the country's first emergency Caesarean Section on a pregnant COVID-19 patient. This act of bravery and medical expertise saved lives. Furthermore, his expertise proved crucial during Ghana's first Marburg Virus Disease outbreak in 2022. He assembled a team of dedicated healthcare professionals who successfully managed the only surviving patient. For his exceptional leadership during this crisis, he was honored by the Ghana Health Service. When not serving his community, Dr. Darko enjoys maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise, socializing with friends, and exploring new cultures. Dr. Joseph Darko is a true leader in healthcare delivery, making a positive impact on both the medical systems he manages and the lives he touches.

Mr. Smith is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). He holds two master’s degrees: a Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CEMBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Accounting from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Sociology from the University of Ghana (UG), Legon. Additionally, he holds a professional Certificate in Forensic and Investigative Accounting and Auditing (CFIAA) from the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), with partial certification from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Currently, he serves as the Head of the Quality Assurance, Risk Management, and Compliance Section of the Internal Audit Unit at the University of Mines and Technology. He is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Ghana (IIAG), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA). As an insurance provider and advisor, he specializes in internal controls, risk management, and corporate governance.

Michael Fynn Hammond holds a Master of Business Administration (HRM) degree and a Bachelor of Education (Management) degree from the University of Cape Coast. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Registrar at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa. Michael is passionate about issues related to organizational management, education, and public policy.
In 2016, Michael was among 119 participants selected from across West Africa, chosen out of over 2,000 applicants for the fifth cohort of the USAID-funded Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) at the Accra Regional Leadership Centre. Additionally, he is a member of the Weducate Initiative, a capacity-building organization focused on empowering low-resource communities in the northern part of Ghana towards a sustainable future. Michael enjoys watching movies and playing football.

Gladys Mawusi Fummey is the nurse in charge of the children’s ward at the Apinto Government Hospital. She holds a certificate in Paediatric Nursing and a BSc in Nursing from the University of Ghana and University of Cape Coast, respectively. Ms. Fummey is passionate about community service, which is evident in her commitment to the activities of the Firm Health Ghana Foundation. She joined the foundation in 2015 with the aim of creating awareness about kidney health and the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles among community members. She achieves this through the foundation’s weekly public health education program on Dynamite FM (88.9), extending her community education outreach to schools and churches. In her free time, Gladys enjoys exercising, playing lawn tennis, and swimming.

Prince Charles Ababio is a Certified Registered Anaesthetist at the Apinto Government Hospital and Tarkwa Community Hospital. He is also a dedicated member of the medical services team at Firm Health Ghana Foundation. Prince Charles graduated from the Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Sekondi and obtained a degree in Anaesthesia from the University for Development Studies Medical School. With his experience in community mobilization and medical outreach programs, P. C. brings valuable expertise to his role at Firm Health Ghana Foundation.
Outside of his professional duties, Prince Charles enjoys watching football and creating and listening to good rap music. Exercise is a fundamental part of his routine.

Chrysantus A. Yuorkuu is a Chartered Accountant certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), and holds a Masters of Business Technology Management degree from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa. Currently, he serves as an Accountant at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) in Tarkwa and holds the position of Head of Payroll at the Finance Unit. Passionate about Financial Management, Chrysantus also teaches Financial Management at UMaT's ICAG Study School. Additionally, he represents ICAG on the Audit Committee of the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal District Health Directorate.
With over 20 years of experience in financial management, Chrysantus brings invaluable expertise to support the activities of Firm Health Ghana Foundation. He has been a part of the foundation for the past five years.

Samuel Kumah is a community health nurse at the Ampain Refugee Camp in the Ellembelle district and a dynamic member of Firm Health Ghana Foundation. Samuel completed his nursing education at the Nursing and Midwifery College in Esiama and gained experience as a peer educator at Marie Stopes Ghana (NGO). With over five years of experience in community mobilization and medical outreach programs, he plays a vital role in the Foundation.
Additionally, Samuel serves as the physiotherapist for Nzema Kotoko Football Club, a Division One league club based in Nzema. Beyond his medical duties, Samuel enjoys organizing and hosting entertainment programs. In his leisure time, he indulges in playing basketball and swimming.

Ernest Armoo serves as the nurse in charge of Dorcas CHPS in the Amenfi West District. Additionally, he holds the position of Sub-District Supervisor for Mass Drug Administration and is actively involved in social and behavioral change advocacy. Ernest completed his training as a Community Health Officer at Esiama NMTC. In 2015, Ernest joined Firm Health Ghana Foundation with the aim of providing medical outreach services to underprivileged communities.

Kwabena Agyemang Yankyera serves as a physician assistant at both the Apinto Government Hospital and Tarkwa Community Hospital. Additionally, he holds a position as a physician assistant with Firm Health Ghana Foundation. Kwabena earned an Advanced Diploma and a BSc in Physician Assistantship from Narh Bita College in Tema. With over four years of experience in community health, he brings valuable expertise to his roles.

Vondee Selasie is a Software Engineer specializing in web and mobile software development. Selasie holds a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa. With over 4 years of experience in website and software development, Selasie manages and develops the website for Firm Health Ghana Foundation.
In addition to his technical expertise, Selasie is also a farmer and an open-minded individual. He enjoys embarking on adventures and journeys, facing challenges head-on while contributing solutions to solve simple problems in the world. Selasie is passionate about making a difference simply because he loves to contribute his quota.

Karen Donkor is a community health nurse at the Anaji East CHPS Compound in the Effia-Kwesimintsim District. Additionally, she serves as the coordinator for the Adolescent Club and Iron Folate Supplementation program at Anaji East. With four years of working experience as a nurse, Karen brings valuable expertise to her role as an active member of Firm Health Ghana Foundation. Outside of her professional duties, Karen enjoys cooking and playing basketball.

Nana Afia Serwaah Boadu is a third-year medical student at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. She is a graduate of Central University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistantship. Nana is a volunteer with Firm Health Ghana Foundation, where she is dedicated to serving underprivileged communities. Nana strongly agrees with Oscar Wilde's sentiment that "The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the grandest intention." This inspires and drives her zeal to give back to society in any way possible.
In her leisure time, Nana loves to travel extensively to appreciate and experience the diversity of cultures in various societies. She also has a passion for music and is very adventurous.

Kornyo Bertha Esinam, a dedicated and passionate Public Health Nurse making a difference in the lives of individuals and communities. With a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Nursing from the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Bertha brings expertise and compassion to her role at the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Health Directorate. As a Public Health Nurse, Bertha focuses on preventive care, education, and community empowerment. She also serves as the Adolescent Health focal person, driving initiatives that support the well-being and development of young people. Beyond her nursing profession, Bertha is a versatile and adventurous individual. She is an Emcee, enjoys swimming, hiking, and staying active as a Fitness Coach inspiring others to live a healthier lifestyle.

Padmore Fosu Amankwah is a Metallurgist with over nine years of working experience in the mining and energy industries. Padmore has a BSc in Mineral Engineering, Post-graduate Diploma in Mining both from the University of Mines and Technology-Tarkwa, Ghana, Project Management Professional Certificate (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, America, and a professional certificate in Occupational Safety & Health from OSHAcademy, USA, and an Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana. Padmore is currently enrolled as a first-year master’s student at Montana Technological University pursuing an MSc in Metallurgical Engineering.  Mr. Amankwah is a discipline, hardworking engineer who pays attention to details. He is a native of Ghana, is married, and has a daughter.
